Details that must be sacrificed under conditions of high contrast

Photo with a mixture of contrasting light and dark areas

Clear days are perfect for photography, but at the same time the strong light creates stark contrasts which wash out the highlights and obscure details in the shadows. This problem cannot be remedied with commonly available digital cameras. The effect will be less prominent if you use front lighting, find an angle with less contrast, or exclude areas of strong contrast from the image.
